Philosophy
At Coonamble Public School Preschool, we acknowledge that the school is built on traditional Aboriginal land and lived upon by Wailwan, Gamilaraay and other nations. We respect this special country, for those who have been, those who are here and those yet to follow. We build cultural understanding, knowledge, and awareness in our school community through embedded practices, as part of the Connected Communities strategy.
As a staff, we acknowledge that play is a child’s natural disposition for learning, and we provide education programs to engage children to be happy, confident, creative, and capable learners. These programs create opportunities for the children to make social connections, demonstrate their strengths, develop skills, and share and deepen their understandings. High expectations underpin our understanding that children learn individually. We are committed to providing inclusive, intentional, and challenging learning experiences that are based on their interests. This supports children to advocate their own learning and become intrinsically motivated to engage and learn and celebrate their ‘now’.
As a staff we have a commitment to ongoing professional learning to continually improve practice. We value critical reflection as a tool for continual improvement and embed this in our day-to-day practice.
The three dimensions of Sustainability (environmental, social, and economic) are embedded in the educational program and staff practices. We embrace the natural environment and promote the theme of caring for country across all aspects of our service and in our engagement with those in our wider community.
We support our children to become resilient active citizens through play-based implementation of the positive behaviour for learning framework. We support our children to be safe, respectful learners.
A child safe culture is embedded and practised by all staff to ensure that the safety and best interest of the children is a priority in all aspects of preschool operations.
We know that a child’s connection and sense of belonging within the family unit is the most important relationship in their lives. We invite and nurture this sense of belonging into our preschool community and the children then extend this to build other positive relationships with staff and their peers.
All staff build positive relationships with our children, families and community and acknowledge and respect their contributions, their values, and their beliefs. We provide a service that understands, respects, and values each child and their family by communicating, building trust, displaying mutual respect and active listening. This creates a supportive environment where collaborative partnerships are established.
We facilitate each child’s journey of transition from home to preschool and then preschool to school, for the child and their family. This transition continuity is achieved through close collaboration with Coonamble Public School, local schools, community agencies and families.
